Dr. Shireen Tabatabai is a skilled, experienced gastroenterologist and hepatologist who provides compassionate and comprehensive care for patients in Melbourne, Australia. Shireen Tabatabai’s clinical experience includes treating patients with liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, bowel cancer prevention and screening, as well as performing high quality, gastroscopy and colonoscopy. She has a special interest in diseases of the liver. Shireen is committed to providing individualised and high-quality patient care. She is passionate about spending adequate time with patients to fully understand their medical concerns and needs and return them to optimal health.

Academic and Professional Background

Dr. Tabatabai obtained her medical degree with honours from the Faculty of Medicine at Monash University in 2000. She went on to complete her internship, residency and gastroenterology training at Monash Health. In 2008, she was awarded the fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians.

Dr. Tabatabai is the co-founder of GastroX. She is also a consultant gastroenterologist and hepatologist at Monash Health, where she conducts clinical trials on liver disease. In addition, she is a director at Monash Gastrointestinal Specialists and sees patients in Clayton and Moorabbin (private practice). She has admitting rights at Frankston Hospital and Jessie MacPherson Hospital in Clayton.

When not treating patients, Dr. Tabatabai enjoys singing gospel and fishing, as well as spending time in nature with her husband and two kids.
